Rather than wasting your time learning C++, shouldn’t you rather be learning openCV? That’s the goal, right? To get paid by Google to hack on openCV via their Summer of Code?
If you spend your time learning C++, you’re going to have four months of experience with C++. Your competition will likely have several years of experience. Why would they hire you?
If, on the other hand, you have four months of experience hacking openCV, that’s going to be more than most other applicants, right?
Now you might object that since you don’t know C++ you can’t possibly hack on openCV. If you didn’t know any programming languages, you might have a point. But since you know Java, you already know enough to start playing with the code. Learn just enough C++ to make openCV do interesting things. That’s all the C++ you need to get to your goal.
