Coursera was founded by two immigrants who had a vision for a world where anyone, anywhere could transform their lives through access to the world’s best education. Today, the global nature of our employee and learner communities is one of our greatest sources of strength and pride. Although we understand that our country must take precautions against terrorism, we believe that President Trump’s broad prohibition targeting specific nations is bound to have an adverse impact on many innocent people.
We stand in solidarity with people everywhere, regardless of country of origin, who are working to better their lives through education. We stand especially, at this moment, with refugees around the world, including the thousands who are taking courses on Coursera to gain new skills and rebuild their lives after being forced from their homes by intolerance or violence.
We will do all we can to support our employees and learners who come from all over the world, and we will continue to expand our Coursera for Refugees program, which provides unlimited free access to our courses to refugees and the non-profit organizations that mentor them. We will also continue to work tirelessly to help anyone, anywhere access the opportunities that a world-class education can provide. We are grateful to all of the committed partners – universities, companies, governments, and our learners – who stand with us in this effort.
