We are honored to announce that the University of Newcastle, a research-intensive institution with an exceptional record of achievement in research and education, has joined edX.
As an institution with a strong commitment to equity of access to higher education, the University of Newcastle (UON) shares edX’s mission to bring high-quality education to all learners, everywhere.
The first course offered by UON is a first-of-its-kind MOOC Drawing Nature, Science and Culture: Natural History Illustration taught by leading artists Dr. Andrew Howells and Dr. Bernadette Drabsch. This course was developed by the staff from the University’s prestigious Natural History Illustration program and is designed to teach learners how to see and draw nature. The course helps to develop skills needed to observe and illustrate subjects across the fields of science, medicine and natural history.
From learners looking to gain the skills necessary to excel in scientific or medical illustration, to those who want to know how to accurately illustrate the wonders of nature they enjoy observing, the course will teach the fundamental skills needed to capture elements of nature, science and culture – from sketching in the field to completing a drawing in the studio.
The launch of the UON course is a meaningful first step in our continued partnership to provide our edX global community of learners with diverse and unique courses from UON’s world-class teachers and researchers.
