Should I feel bad about buying books when they're available online for free?

Generally they’re not really online for free. Or rather, the “free” versions are subsidized by people paying for the books.

Without that money, the authors don’t receive money to survive as writers, and the publishers and distributors don’t get money to bring things to the masses, and next thing you know, we’re living in a world where amazing content for books is locked away in the minds of a few people and can’t be distributed.

That would be a sad world. Same applies for every type of media. If you’re not paying for it, someone else is subsidizing it for you.
