The idea that the work that the team at Khan Academy does is already helping to educate tens of millions of students and could educate 100s of million more around the world still is hard for me to believe. I can’t imagine a better way to spend my life. Not only is the mission and impact important, but the team here is incredibly smart and idealistic which is very inspiring to be around. But here are just a few recent letters/messages we’ve gotten that give you a sense of what keeps us motivated:

“I grew up in one of the Brazilian favelas (slums) and was lucky enough to find out that the world was much more than what I saw there. let me tell you a story: in 2013, a friend and I created a project to empower youth in Brazil. We hosted workshops to help teenagers finding their dreams and then planning a strategy to make those dreams come true. In one of our workshops, a 13-year-old participant named Joao said: "I want to impact people's lives and the only feasible way I can think of doing that is through education. But first I have to work on my own education, and I suck at math. So what can I do?"

"It's just a matter of finding the way that you learn best. Once you find it, you'll get good at math. Do you know Khan Academy?" I asked him.

He didn't, so I told him to look that up. He really liked KA, and started studying with it until late hours throughout the week. A couple of weeks later, in another workshop, he told me, "Gus, I got an A in math!". A month later he said, "I got an A+." A few months later he said, "Gus, I am going to the final of the National Mathematical Olympiad!"
