For Teacher Appreciation Day, we’ve highlighted 5 courses that share innovative teaching strategies, ways to incorporate new technology in the classroom, and how to get students to engage.
1. Get Organized: How to be a Together Teacher
This course is designed for teachers who juggle time-sensitive tasks and often-exhausting teaching schedules. With an eye toward long-term sustainability, The Together Teacher examines the purpose for planning ahead, provides tools for tracking time commitments, deadlines and tasks, and helps teachers develop a personal organization system that interacts with their day-by-day practices.
All teachers, from the pen & paper list maker to the tech-savvy digital maven, will benefit from the no-nonsense approach to “togetherness” that’s presented in this course. We don’t care what format you use; we care that you know when you have free time during the day and that you have a plan for using it.
2. Powerful Tools for Teaching and Learning: Digital Storytelling
If you’re unfamiliar with using technology in the classroom and want to learn the basics of digital storytelling, this is the course for you. You’ll learn how to define a clear purpose, write an effective script and storyboard, and record and edit your own audio files. This course will give you hands-on experience creating digital stories from idea to completion.
3. Get Interactive: Practical Teaching with Technology
Learn how to use multimedia tools like podcasts, social media, and video to enrich your class. This course will introduce different teaching techniques that will help you encourage students to interact online. You’ll have the opportunity to create dynamic online learning programs using digital quizzes, twitter polls, blogs, and more.
4. ELL Success in the Content Classroom: Teacher Toolbox Series Specialization
Plan lessons and activities with English Langauge Learners in mind, and create engaging and welcoming environments for students and their families. Learn how to design meaningful activities, modification tips and techniques, and how to support communication discussion prompts. At the end of this Specialization, you’ll complete a two-part capstone project where you’ll create a lesson plan that will include modified materials for ELLs.
5. Art & Inquiry: Museum Teaching Strategies For Your Classroom
Why engage in inquiry around art? Engaging in open-ended inquiry will encourage your students to participate and feel heard in the classroom. Explore how to use inquiry-based teaching methods originally developed for in-gallery museum education, for any topic. Learn how to incorporate inquiry into your lesson plans, and create activities that promote open communication.
