How long would it take an experienced programmer to learn Python?

It's all the same shit. They could use it immediately. Python is like regular programming on training wheels.
Of course a lot of the real benefit of it comes from a solid and intuitive grasp of specific libraries and toolkits. Those could take a while to become comfortable with (though if it was dedicated time, not that long).
But the language itself is trivial to work with. In fact most languages are trivial to work with, and more importantly, intentionally so.
I don't think it's that impressive to be able to use a slew of languages.
They all have a strong incentive to make the learning curve for existing coders as small as possible. That's part of what's driving JavaScript's rise in many non traditional areas; so many people are already familiar with it that the learning curve is minimal, so they're trying to cash in on that.
Every language does this to varying degrees, and Python is no exception.
Even if they weren't consciously trying to, they're trying to accomplish such similar things and are just basing their creation of a new language on their existing knowledge, so its bound to be easy to pick up.
