Go to another school. It doesn't sound like you are getting the learning experience you want.

That said, your behavior is very childish. You are not there to be cool or hip, you are there to learn. If you are worried about the ide then you are thinking of the wrong things, because in the end the framework doesn't really matter. What matters most is your knowledge of computer science in general and your ability to adapt to any situation.

The teacher wants something easy for the majority of people to set up and use. This way he can quickly help students who are having trouble accessing features, and can simplify the testing process for himself and the rest of the students. If it really didn't matter then he wouldn't care what you used. But it does matter to him, so why do you have to throw a monkey wrench in his system?

You have already done the best you could do in this situation ... Ask the teacher. If it's not convenient to go to a new school then write something that can compile on both systems.

At some point you just have to let it go, and focus on what's right instead of what's wrong. Heck, at least you are learning c++ and not some proprietary school language.
