MOOCs typically use two methods to assess students, auto-graded quizzes and peer-graded assignments.
The auto-graded quizzes are usually multiple choice questions which are automatically graded. They often allow several attempts and are a good opportunity to self-monitor your understanding and progress, allowing you to review any concepts you may be unclear about.
The peer-graded assignments are more open-ended assessments where students are required to mark fellow-students’ work using set marking criteria provided by the course instructors.
