Is Udacity's job placement guarantee legit?

I don't think Udacity would risk their reputation (and class-action lawsuits) lying about this. But let's dig in further.
Udacity is the latest online school to launch a program with guaranteed job placement:
  • The Flatiron School has an online program that costs $1,000 per month until you finish it. If you can finish it, they guarantee you a job or your money back.
  • Bloc has an online program that costs $24,000. If you can finish it, they guarantee you a job or your money back.
Like these programs, Udacity's program has the limitation that you must be able to work in the United States (so only 5% of people are even eligible).
Also, let's look at their definition of a "job":
"Udacity will help you find a job (as defined in the program Terms and Conditions) at a partner company, land you a paying internship, or secure for you the opportunity to make money through Udacity’s global mentorship or freelancing programs."
It's worth noting that if you wanted a job freelancing, you could probably take whatever coding skills you happen to have now, go to Upwork, and get one today. And "global mentorship" sounds like you're just going to be helping other Udacity students work through their nanodegree program.
By the way, in case you're wondering, Free Code Camp won't be hopping on the "job-or-your-money-back guarantee" bandwagon, because there's nothing to guarantee - we're free. And members of our open source community don't seem to be having trouble getting jobs, either.
