First, while I always recommend college for a new high school grad and it is quite valuable as a credential, it's not necessary to have a CS degree for someone late in their career. Statistically, engineers with degrees make more money, but if you have a degree in accounting, that's perfectly fine. In fact, accounting is a very quantitative and technical field of a sort, so you shouldn't have much trouble.

You can pick up all the skills needed for a career in engineering via books and the Internet itself.

I'd suggest starting with some basic HTML and javascript, maybe a Wordpress blog. Some business run their web sites entirely out of Wordpress and Wordpress plugins.

Above all, start small and incrementally learn new skills as you go. Don't think of it as some big task that requires years of effort before you are good enough, just take it day by day.
