It's mostly a time-constraint issue. In addition to teaching, I also supervise PhD students, write grants and research papers and supervise a group of Master's and undergraduate students.
Keep in mind that we're offering these online courses for free. As faculty we don't get paid extra for all the additional work that doing the online portion creates. It's simply because we believe in the educational mission.
