An Evening of Data Science With Coursera & Women Who Code

This past Wednesday, we were thrilled to host hundreds of current and potential future Data Scientists at the Coursera office for an event organized jointly with Women Who Code – a global nonprofit dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers. The goal of the evening was to provide an inclusive forum for discussing data science roles, projects, and career paths, and to encourage the development of a vibrant and diverse data science community.

The event kicked off with lightning talks by five Coursera Data Scientists, on topics that spanned decision science, data products, career development, and more:

• Emily Glassberg Sands introduced a framework for thinking about data science roles and defining your career path
• Katherine Wong highlighted some of the many ways Coursera uses AB testing to build better products
• Ning Liu discussed how the user’s voice powers both our decision science and data products work
• Airong Cai covered the building process for a couple of our core discovery data products
• Miaomiao Wen shared her perspective on the transition from academia to data science

An engaging Q&A and discussion session closed out the night – and snacks and refreshments were enjoyed by all.

Huge thanks to everyone who showed up to participate, and to support our community in continual technical and professional development. What a fantastic kick-off to data science growth in 2017!
