Because our collaboration with universities is so important, we need leaders within Coursera who deeply understand the process of building innovative online learning programs at large, complex institutions. For this reason, I am very excited to announce that Deanna Raineri has joined Coursera as Vice President of University Partnerships, Teaching & Learning. In this role, Deanna will work closely with university partners to deepen our engagements as we grow the portfolio of learning experiences offered on Coursera to learners around the world.

Deanna’s leadership in online education is widely acknowledged and admired across the university community. She joins Coursera from the position of Associate Provost for Education Innovation at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she established a campus-wide vision and leadership for innovations in classroom and online education. Deanna played a crucial leadership role in the development and delivery of all of the University’s Coursera-hosted content, including two groundbreaking degree programs, the iMBA and the recently announced Master of Computer Science in Data Science. During her time at Illinois, Deanna also served as a faculty member in the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology and as Associate Dean for Instructional Technologies and Information Services in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences where she launched a portfolio of 200+ online courses including four online degrees.

Coursera’s journey since 2012 has proven that universities are willing to embrace experimentation and innovation in how education is delivered and consumed around the world. Deanna’s experience as an academic innovator positions her well to help us become an even better partner to universities as they work to shape the future of higher education.

Sincerely,
Rick Levin, CEO of Coursera
