MOOC Platform FUN-MOOC

Launched by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research in October 2013, FUN-MOOC's mission is to raise awareness of the work of French universities and institutions and make them publicly accessible on an international scale. To date, the MOOC platform has partnered with over 100 higher ed institutions, both in France and globally, and currently offers over 330 free open online courses across a broad range of subjects, including technology, science, humanities, languages and more.

The courses run on a scheduled session-based format and are free and open to anyone wishing to enrol. With the exception of a handful of courses that are run in English or German, the majority of courses are in French. However, many courses have subtitles in French or English. Enrolled students can use the course discussion forums to interact with peers and, in some cases, with instructors. Courses may have practice tests and quizzes and/or a final peer-graded assessment. Most courses offer a free Statement of Participation issued by FUN-MOOC on successful completion of the course. These are not ID-verified and do not grant credit. Some courses will also offer a proctored exam and a verified Certificate of Achievement issued by the provider institution. These certificates cost approximately €60 and, in some cases, grant ECTS credit.
