What have you been doing for 3 years in community college that it would require another 4 years to get a degree?? If it is a reputable community college, you should have built up between 1-2 years of credit towards an undergrad degree. You may need to "shop around" to find the right college to accept the credits, but it will be worth the effort.
All the data I've seen, and my experience, suggest that getting the degree is better. The degree and experience getting it is more than simply learning coding, and that is something implied by the diploma…and why employers value it.
