Conveniently, Udacity has ordered their data science courses for their "nano-degree" program: Data Analyst Nanodegree

This is the order that they listed the component courses, and this looks like a good order to follow to become a data scientist.
  1. Intro to Data Science [you can "Access Course Materials" for free] (alternative: Harvard CS 109)
  2. Data Wrangling with MongoDB
  3. Exploratory Data Analysis Using R [you can "Access Course Materials" for free] (alternative: How do I begin analyzing data using R?)
  4. Intro to Machine Learning
  5. Data Visualization and D3.js
