Derek Newton "What On Earth Is A MOOC-Based Degree Path?" – An Annotated Version

The article by Derek Newton is simply outrageous and clearly based on a very biased viewpoint that degrees are the ONLY valid form of education. Get with the real world, Derek, because education IS changing whether you like it or not. A very unfair attack on an initiative that is designed to...

What Udemy courses are really worth paying for?

Reviews of Udemy are quite varied - some people seem to love it and others say you should stay clear. So, are their courses a sham or are there some that are really worth paying for?

How many courses can I take with a subscription on Coursera?

I'm a bit confused about the subscriptions on Coursera. I did read that you could get access to their entire catalog with a monthly subscription, but I can't see that option on the Coursera website.

Discussion Coursera, edX, Udacity...the Good, the Bad & the Ugly

Thanks for your insightful comments. I can't help but feel a little cheated. If this is the case, we may as well enrol in a proper online degree course. At least we'd know we were getting our money's worth!

Discussion Coursera, edX, Udacity...the Good, the Bad & the Ugly

Coursera seem to have changed their layout and the way you browse their courses so that it's now really difficult to find anything and you can't see when courses start. I really don't like it. Does anyone else think the same?

I think it's acceptable to pay for a verified certificate as it's still peanuts compared to what you'd be paying on a campus course.

Discussion Reflections on Learning with MOOCs

I agree with you, @Noreen Mullin , that MOOCs provide a wonderful opportunity for those you don't have the time or means to enrol at university or simply want to build on their skills. Education is a privilege, and MOOCs have given people globally the possibility to enjoy that privilege if they...

Discussion Online Learning vs Traditional Learning

Given the speed at which technology is evolving, I think all education will encorporate far more digital technology than it does today. Online learning will become an integral part of curricula across the board without necessarily replacing face to face learning. I think the edtech revolution is...

Discussion Reflections on Learning with MOOCs

On paper, this all looks very straight forward. Of course, we'd all love to follow these guidelines, but taking a course online requires a lot of self discipline and motivation. If the course isn't engaging enough, it becomes very hard to keep motivated. If you lose interest in a course, my...
